Japanese conglomerate SoftBank’s CEO Masayoshi Son has offered free solar power to International Solar Alliance member countries including India if they sign power purchase agreements with his company.
“As long as you have the land and sunshine, as long as you have the eyes and ears listening to me, I will give you free power,” Son said at the second Re-Invest conference.
According to Son, free solar power will be provided to India and other member countries of the International Solar Alliance once solar power projects complete 25 years.
“SoftBank now offers free power from solar power projects after a Power Purchase Agreement of 25 years,” he added. He has already discussed the project with prime minister Narendra Modi. Son said the lifespan of a solar power project would be around 80-100 years. In the presentation which discussed the prodpects of the project, he said less than 1% of India’s land mass will be sufficient for 1000 GW of solar power generation capacity.
