Social networking giant Facebook has appointed Ajit Mohan as Managing Director and Vice-President for India. The new appointment came after Facebook’s long search for a top candidate for the post.
According to reports, Facebook’s recruitment agency had shortlisted some prominent names like Star India MD Sanjay Gupta, Viacom18 group CEO Sudhanshu Vats, Tata Sky MD Harit Nagpal, and Hotstar CEO Ajit Mohan, among others for the position.
As the new Managing Director for India, a Vice President-level position, Mohan will be aligning teams and leading Facebook’s overall strategy in India. The senior leader of Facebook India will now directly report to its office in Menlo Park.
Facebook is planning to develop special products and services for its 241 million active users in India. The new appointment at top management level is part of the company’s strategy to focus more on Indian market.
“Ajit’s depth of experience will help us to continue to have a positive impact in India across communities, organizations, businesses and with policymakers,” said David Fischer, Vice-President of Business and Marketing Partnerships, Facebook Inc.
An alumnus of McKinsey and Company’s New York office, Mohan has worked with media companies across the world. Presently, Mohan is leading Hotstar, the video streaming platform launched by Star India as the Chief Executive Officer.
