Welcome to #eoindia #startupstories Episode 21.
Each week we will ask an Indian entrepreneur 11 questions so that we can all be inspired by their stories.
Today we are talking to marketing startup which specialises in bringing new health products to the Indian market. Currently having found success with their first productSTEVIA , a natural sweetener. As the the founder states, “we as Indians love to travel and adopt western culture and habits. So we at Peach Healthcare decided to introduce those healthy and essential products that we Indians miss, but need to include in our daily lives.”
1) How did you get your idea for this business?
Well, after completing my Masters in Clinical Pharmacy I decided to join my Dad’s Pharma company Empree Medicaments in 2013. I was trying and understanding the operations of a Pharma Unit, it was then when my dad mentioned about this product STEVIA as a Natural Healthy Sweetener to Diabetics to me and my younger brother and we started working on it. It took us over a year and plus to get all resources, designing and licensing in place for Stevia. In due course of time I got married and shifted to Mumbai, managing work from Mumbai and factory at Karnataka was not that easy, that is when I started looking for Job opportunities and got one, worked with Sciformix Technologies as a Safety Data Analyst for a year and started realizing this is not where I belong and restarted my talks on Sviten with my dad which was still kept at step 1 stage. I quit my job and decided to start my own firm and this gave rise to PEACH HEALTHCARE.
2) Why is “now” a good time for this idea to exist?
With the increase in ambiguity of artificial sweeteners and their side effects and also the expected exponential rate of Diabetics in India in millions by 2025, its important to have something that’s sweetening your palate and at the same time equally safe, healthy and zero calorie in nature. Also, our other Products like multivitamin jelly for kids are helping mom nourish their kids with the goodness of vitamins hidden under a gummy, which the kids are lacking.
3) What was the reaction from your family when you first decided to become an entrepreneur?
My family was always supportive about it, especially my husband and inlaws they always trusted in my work and encouraged me to go ahead with this decision. At the same time there were much advice pouring in from my friends which I had to filter myself and think on the big step. Being an entrepreneur is not as easy as working under corporate firm, where you work 9-6 and get back home. Your business will take in a lot of time and you will have to be at patience in setting up things than the returns (Ps: Forget about holidaying for some time.. haha). But, yes their belief in me helped me.
4) What was your biggest failure in business and what did you learn from it?
Every day is a new challenge, where I have to interact with people, different firms and identifing the right people for business is important. Initially, my firm was duped with few online sites which claimed business for money exchange but never turned up with a single order. Registering with Marketing teams with big talks and no results was another failure step.
5) What is your biggest obstacle in the next 12 months and how will you overcome it?
Well, creating awareness about the safety and easy usage of Stevia and educating the crowd about a natural sweetner is a task to be accomplished. To overcome it I have my team set up with various plans to educate the mass mainly using social media.
6) What habits contribute to your success?
I am a very spontaneous person by nature. Many a times this spontanity and “keep on trying” attitude helps me move ahead with my work.
7) If you had the opportunity to start this business again what would you do differently?
If I had given that opportunity, I would firstly get in a good investor to my business because the market is huge. The initial setting up phase gets relatively easy with an investor on board.
8) What is your favourite inspirational quote?
Life is colors, display your color well
9) Where do you find inspiration?
I find inspiration in things around me, be a small paper advertisement, a product on the shelf of a store, a book I read, social media pages I scroll all of these keep giving me new ideas which help me focus on my work with a greater clarity.
10) What is your favourite book?
11) What advice would you give to someone starting out?
Get your market survey right before you invest your time on a new startup. And yes, if you have had this thought for a while, it’s time you put it to execution yourself; for none will make your dreams come true. It’s you who can make it happen. Go for it.
