Welcome to Entrepreneurs of India #startupstories episode 137
A healthy lifestyle is something that we all want. However, the junk food frenzy, which kicked in recently has made the situation worse. The lack of a proper diet plan is one of the main reasons why people suffer from lifestyle diseases. NutriAI, founded by Alifia S Bhol, a post-graduate in clinical nutrition and dietetics, strives to solve this issue effectively.
NutriAl is a Mumbai-based online Diet Therapy Clinic that provides tailor-made diet plans to suit the requirement of people. It gives you a diet plan that is best suited to your body.
Alifia also supplies calorie counted healthy meals to corporates and events. Also, she educates people through seminars and diet awareness programs.
How did NurtiAl happen? What are the challenges of India’s fitness industry? Let’s find out as Alifia talks about her entrepreneurial journey.
1) How did you get your idea for this business?
I always wondered why nutrition and diet therapy was an adjunct to another medical service and never a primary treatment. With NutriAl, I prove and promote the role of scientific diet planning in preventing and curing a disease or health problem. NutriAl’s focus is on a healthy lifestyle that revolves heavily around healthy eating.
2) Why is “now” a good time for this idea to exist?
Because fitness has become a billion dollars industry and everyone wants to get fit, There’s more need for qualified dietitians to speak about healthy eating than any other random person who hasn’t even had a degree in nutrition and Dietetics!
3) What was the reaction from your family when you first decided to become an entrepreneur?
My family was extremely supportive. I couldn’t find a better way to make my mom proud. My husband and my in-laws have always encouraged me to do something on my own and the best support they could offer me was letting me use their space for my clinic.
4) What was your biggest mistake in business and what did you learn from it?
My initial and biggest mistake was to underestimate my potential as a dietitian and as an entrepreneur. I learnt that if you do good genuine work, there will always be someone to pay you for it. Education and talent never go waste. Believe in yourself and in your work.
5) What is your biggest obstacle in the next 12 months and how will you overcome it?
The obstacle in the next 12 months will be separating evidence-based nutritional science from free-flowing inauthentic diet advice. There’s so much written about diets and food, that people are no more sure about whom to go for genuine advice!
I will overcome it by conducting health and awareness sessions starting from community reaching out to more people regarding giving up on Fad Diets and rooting towards following a healthy lifestyle.
6) What habits contribute to your success?
Habits that contribute to my success is being true to my work, handling patients with utmost honesty and compassion, being updated with the latest evidence-based health science and never giving up.
7) If you had the opportunity to start this business again what would you do differently?
If I could start my business all over again, I would simply launch it on a big platform so that thousands would be aware of my online diet clinic.
8) What is your favourite inspirational quote?
Aim for the stars, you will at least reach the moon!
9) Where do you find inspiration?
I find inspiration in each of my patients and clients. Their drive to stay healthy that brings them to me makes me realize how important and valued being a dietitian is. Their will power to monitor food habits and agree to what I say about their food warms my heart!
10) What is your favourite book?
I’m an avid reader (not just Nutrition books !) To name just one is almost impossible. There are so many. I can mention here about what comes to my mind right now. I loved ‘forty rules of love by Elif Shafaq’ and ‘Da Vinci code’.
11) What advice would you give to someone starting out?
My advice to a budding entrepreneur would be: keep it simple, keep it genuine and never stop! Be ready for an emotional roller coaster ride
