1) How did you get your idea for this venture?
The idea of starting Boost Thyself came after an incident (Suicidal death of one of my close friends) with me in the final year of my engineering that coerced me to initiate something which can spread positivity among people and inspire them towards a better life. But for a moment, I thought, I alone would not be able to do this.
And, I approached one of my friends, who is also a writer. But only procrastination happened and we couldn’t start. After sometime, I decided to move ahead alone and gave it a start by approaching people across India, and formed a team. And with the immense contribution of team members, Boost Thyself grew by leaps and bounds.
2) Why is “now” a good time for this idea to exist?
After that incident, I did a lot of research about today’s lifestyle and the way people are dealing with their lives and surprisingly got to know that 8 out of 10 people are not happy with their life and not even with their success. They are suffering from stress, confusion and a deep melancholy. Perhaps they are unaware of the infinite intelligence and power within them and hence they are in negative direction.
After studying all this, I think, this is high time for such startups to come into existence.
3) What was the reaction from your family when you first decided to become an entrepreneur?
Before I vowed to boost others, I did self introspection and made a plan to change myself first in a positive way. Because I believe in genuine nature of the personality and I must be following the things which I’m gonna teach others. Hence, After a certain time, I was totally changed and looking this positive change in my Life, my family also appreciated my efforts and supported me in every possible way.
4) What was your biggest mistake in your venture and what did you learn from it?
Being an entrepreneur, one has to make many decisions and hence many times, he/she ends up with making the decision which might not be that good and hence he/she has to adjust it. Thus, in my opinion, there are many vicissitudes in decision making which make us learn that particular thing in different aspects.
So, yes, even, I have committed many mistakes since the inception of Boost Thyself and being a curious learner always, have explored and learnt a lot.
5) What is your biggest obstacle in the next 12 months and how will you overcome it?
We believe in a genuine relation of mentor to its mentee. Mentees should feel content with the coaching by their mentor. Hence, we are working on the project of one to one coaching to corporate mentee for life coach, relationship coach, stress management, work life balance, implementing positive habits, making resolution and implementing, to be more productive and effecting in one’s life.
6) What habits contribute to your success?
When I look myself two years back, I get myself as a totally different character in the film of my life. I believe in character development more than personality development and hence I’ve worked more upon developing the genuine character by implementing Yoga & Exercise, Early rising(I wake up at 4am), reading books, controlling the mind and its activities.
I believe that whatever I have been able to achieve through BT, this is all due to the positive paradigm shift which I bought in my life. And of course starting such a venture like Boost Thyself has been a blissful moment of my life as it has shifted my character in the film of my life.
7) If you had the opportunity to start this venture again what would you do differently?
If I have to start again it means now I am aware of my mistakes, and not that good decisions which I have taken. So of course, I’ll use such experiences in planning and execution of it. Hence, I would be working in a little different way implementing my experiences and lessons which I have learnt till now.
8) What is your favourite inspirational quote?
“Sow a thought, reap an action; sow an action, reap a character; sow a character, reap a habit; sow a habit. reap a destiny” – Stephen Covey
9) Where do you find inspiration?
My parents, more specifically my mother has always been pillar of strength and inspiration for me as she is a very positive woman I have ever seen. Let the situation be anything, she always says, “look it in a positive way, there’s something good for it.”
Though, I believe, inspiration is something which comes from within and keep you boosted always. So, yes, exploring myself by self awareness, I find the same inspiration which I seek from my mother. Even by reading the autobiographies of APJ Abdul Kalam & M.G. Gandhi, I have got a lot of inspiration from such great leaders who have been the paragon of the idol personality & character.
10) What is your favorite book?
I started reading books just before 3 years and now sometimes I think, I should have started reading since childhood. Because there are so much to learn from it. Being a curious reader of self help books, I loved “The Power of Your Subconscious Mind By Joseph Murphy” most.
11)What advice would you give to someone starting out?
If you think you love doing this and can do for a certain period of time even if you’re not paid, just go for it. If your happiness is there what you love to do, don’t let it go. Don’t wait for the right time by procrastinating. Do the research, study the data, and grab the opportunity. Don’t underestimate the infinite power within you, have dare, take risk, move a step ahead, see there you go as an entrepreneur.
Being an entrepreneur is not all about making money. We are made to think that money could give us happiness. But it’s not right. You become happy when you selflessly get involved in things you do.
Akhilesh was shattered by the tragic death of his friend, but he drew inspiration from that incident and rolled up his sleeves to motivate people. That’s how he made a difference in the society.
Now Boost Thyself is in the forefront to inspire people from all walks of life, irrespective of their ethnic background. Thank you Akhilesh for sharing your wonderful story.
